What is a learning plan?

The learning plan is a map that you and the learner use to manage the learner's journey towards their personal goals. It should help the learner answer the following questions in as much depth as is feasible.

  • Where am I now?
  • Where do I want to get to?
  • How will I get there?
  • How will I know that I'm getting there/have arrived?

Or to put it another way, a learning plan records:

  • outcomes of initial assessment
  • personal learning goals
  • learning strategies; and
  • progress/achievement.

Once you and the learner have explored starting points you can agree some intermediate objectives and intended learning outcomes. These will give the learner something specific to work towards. This is a key stage in the RARPA process.
