Identifying personal learning goals

You need to have a conversation with learners at the earliest possible opportunity about what they hope to get out of your course or workshop. Depending on the nature of the course and the learners themselves, you may decide to do this:

  • on a one-to-one basis as part of the initial assessment process; or
  • collectively, through group discussion.

These discussions should lead to some shared understanding of each learner's personal learning goals.
