Differentiation

Differentiation is a key factor in improving teaching and learning. It is about responding effectively and sensitively to individual learners and is particularly important when groups of learners vary in their:

  • interests
  • aspirations
  • aptitudes
  • requirements for learning support
  • physical abilities, limitations and health issues; or
  • cultural background.

With such diversity, a blanket approach to teaching and learning won't work. Look at the MFL resources, and talk to your Subject Learning Coach and your colleagues about how to incorporate differentiation strategies and approaches into your practice. You’ll find more about responding to individuals in the sections on Relevance and Challenge.
