Themes

Introduction

This section highlights four themes that are central to effective community-based Adult Learning. The themes outline current thinking and give pointers to good practice. In getting it right for the learner, they address making learning challenging and relevant, meeting individual needs through differentiation, and fostering safety and well-being.

If you are a tutor working independently, choose the sections that interest you. Make the most of what's here by following the links to Continuing professional development (CPD) activities and resources for direct use with learners.

If you are responsible for CPD in your organisation or service, either as a manager or a Subject Learning Coach, you may wish to use extracts from the themes to support mentoring or facilitated CPD activities.
