Feedback

Giving feedback to your learners provides them with a personal affirmation of their capacity to learn and therefore to change. It develops confidence in themselves as well as in their tutors and sends them a powerful message that you're interested in how they are getting on. It's also a means by which you and they can celebrate their achievements.

The outcomes of assessment provide the basis on which you can give advice and guidance that will help the learner improve.

Whether you give feedback face-to-face, electronically or in some other way, try to:

  • be clear and to the point
  • be fair
  • base your feedback on the evidence presented; and
  • be constructive — identify strengths as well as areas for development.
