Example of performance criteria
If the idea of performance criteria sounds daunting, a very simple example might help.
Imagine how you would define what you're expecting from your window cleaner. You'd most probably describe it like this:
- turns up regularly
- is equipped with the right tools for the job
- pays due attention to health and safety in setting up ladders
- applies water, cleaning agent and scraper in appropriate order
- leaves panes clear, without streaks or residue in corners
- avoids scratching glass
- is polite; and
- provides change.
If the window cleaner does all these things consistently over a number of visits, you'd probably want to award a certificate in window cleaning.
