Protocols for learners
Tutors and learners are jointly responsible for ensuring safe working in the classroom or practice hall. It is your responsibility to let learners know what's expected of them at your class, and learners' responsibility to come along properly prepared.
This activity gives you the opportunity to develop guidance for learners (protocols) that will suit your own learners and your own discipline. We provide sample protocols for the Sport and fitness disciplines most commonly taught in Adult Learning. These can be customised to suit local circumstances or different approaches to the discipline. A blank template is provided for tutors who teach the less common disciplines.
Tutors can use this resource on their own. But please consult your manager about any changes you would like to make to current working practices.
The resource could also be used by managers or Subject Learning Coaches as part of a managed CPD activity for Sport and fitness staff, or within a curriculum team meeting. It could be used to promote discussion about how to improve current practice. Managers need to be receptive to the changes that tutors may suggest.
This resource relates to the theme: Improving teaching and learning, particularly the sub-theme, Safety and well-being.
