Teaching in a communicative way

An interactive activity enabling tutors to assess how the degree to which they themselves are taking the lead in each session compared with the extent their learners are actively involved — and then make appropriate adjustments to the balance.

In order to differentiate successfully, you need to use a communicative approach to language teaching. Communicative tasks, which emphasise the active use of the taught language, lend themselves to differentiation, being very easy to adapt for different levels of learner.

Use the self-assessment checklist to find out whether you are teaching in a communicative way.
